Is it fact or fiction that it's unhealthy to eat just before going to bed at night?
I work at shift at night from 3pm-11:30pm. Most of the time I come home at midnight or later. I'm usually very hungry. I'm concerned whether or not my eating habits are unhealthy. I'm 26 yrs. old, in good shape, and I'm 6'5", 215lbs. Maybe I'm getting away with a little because I'm big & still in my twenties, but I still don't want to be eating like this if it's unhealthy. I've heard that because you are not moving while you sleep, your food just sits there and turns into fat. Others have said this is untrue because your body burns calories whether or not you are sleeping. What's the best advice? Last night I came home at 12am and ate two barbecue chicken quesadillas, a salad w/ Ranch, diet Root Beer w/ two scoops of whole Vanilla ice cream and a bowl of Frosted Miniwheats. ??? What do you think?
I find myself sleeping better on an empty stomach. As for it turning directly into fat -- no. That little myth originates in that it is extra calories that you wouldn't normally eat. Then throw in that most of the food eaten at night is fastfood or unhealthy makes it worse.
