Dry rub recipe:

  • 3 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground basil
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons dry mustard
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon black pepper

This BBQ dry rub recipe comes from Off the Grill Magazine and is excellent on both pork shoulders and as a rib rub.  Mix rub ingredients in a mixing bowl.  Coat meat evenly and refrigerate at least 4 to 6 hours but preferably overnight.  Remainder of the BBQ rub can be sealed and kept in a cool dry location for future use.
